Solar support frame

So, there are lightweight flexible solar panels out there. Much has been said about their long term reliability. They are basically made to be glued or taped to flat or curved surfaces. There is a natural temptation to connect them to some sort of lightweight framework. There is an interesting patent out there () for a japanese spacecraft with solar panels that are slightly flexed to stiffen the panels. Bowed Solar Array Patent US 5,833,176 Deployable Truss with integral folding panels Patent 8,371,088 Patent 10,024,050 US20120313569A1 This looks like it would be worth trying with the flexible panels. Here is some information on what happened when I gave it a try.
